Michael Jackson's Birthday Celebration in Prospect Park (Brooklyn, NY)

Oh, fun!

I've been busy adjusting to life in NYC. It's all been pretty normal with the typical worries associated being in a new place. But today I went over to Brooklyn to attend Michael Jackson's 51st Birthday Celebration. The event was put together by Spike Lee (whom, as a side note, I met years ago when I was a hard working student at UCLA Campus Events and we'd invited him to speak.)

It was a fun event. I wasn't sure if I was going to go for a few personal reasons, but after a phone call and just realizing that I could just go home if it wasn't my cup of tea, I headed to Brooklyn. I'm glad I did. It was a lot of fun. What's exciting is Spike would like to try to make this a yearly event. That would be even more fun to make this a yearly event.

I recorded some video with my little digital camera, so check it out.

  1. i would really have loved to have been there... i grew up in brooklyn, and left in 2000...

i put on an all-day MJ event in portland, from 11 to 7... it was a lot of fun, with a lot of kids who love the MJ... it was so touching.

i watched the 'wanna be startin' somethin'' video on facebook, and i began crying immediately. i cried pretty much everyday for 16 days when it happened. and then i began crying again every day for the past two weeks or so.

i miss him so much... i have been writing blogs a lot, since his transition. this is what i feel i can do. i just feel so empty. he is my teacher. i love him so much. i don't want to cry anymore. i want to be happy for him. he is free now.

  2. It was a fun event. There were people dancing and enjoying MJ's music. Little kids were out there. Old people were out there. People of all colors were out there. It was nice to be there.

I was close to tears for a couple of moments, but held back. I held back because with my parents dying young and five weeks apart, I've cried a lot. I couldn't do it again.

I'm no filmmaker by any stretch, so I hope they conveyed a bit of the fun that happened yesterday.
