Trace Magazine - Black Girls Rule
I just found out about this magazine today.
Unlike Vogue Italy, Trace Magazine has had a "black girls rule" issue once a year for the last few years now. I'm not sure of exactly how long, but once I verify how many, I'll update this post. Trace is a NYC-based magazine and it looks fierce. I'm going to have to take some time to look at some other issues.
TRACE is a TRANSCULTURAL Styles and Ideas magazine, a new expression in culture documenting the impact of the interconnected worlds of music, fashion, film, art, politics on today's multiethnic youth.Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.
Here is the link to this year's issue in Adobe Acrobat format and the guest editor was Spike Lee. Again, niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.
And they've got a feature on Michelle Obama. Again, niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.
So, for every single person who posted a negative comment on my post about the Vogue Italy issue, put your money where your mouth is and subscribe to Trace. They've been featuring "us" for awhile now.
Also, here is Trace Magazine's MySpace page.

I honestly did think those girls in Vogue looked like white people. I thought it was lazy, one of the reasons I dont look at magazines, mostly all the girls in there arent my type. Thats nice they do stuff like that. I'll tell others about the magazine. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, opinions can differ. That Vogue issue had famous women from Grace Jones, Angela Bassett, Tina Turner, Jody Watley and Tocarra of America's Next Top Model fame.
ReplyDeleteThese women didn't look white in that issue, sorry.
I'm definitely going to check out that magazine. I'm not sure I'm precisely the target audience, but good interesting writing is good, interesting writing. I've been known to read magazines aimed at men, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing it out!
You're welcome ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love Trace and glad someone is putting them on the map...lovely!
ReplyDeleteWell, I heard about it and it's to both promote Trace because they've got that great yearly issue, but also there were so many negative comments on the Italian Vogue issue that featured black women.
ReplyDeleteSo, like I said, this is a very clear throw down for all those negative mofos to put their money where their fucking mouths are, get a subscription to Trace and STFU.
I still think what Italian Vogue did was great.
