Fan Death!!!??? It's real!!!
Some friends' and their spoof of the belief in fan death by many Koreans...LOL.
It was a blog about my life and adventures as an expat in Seoul, South Korea. I've been back in the USA for over ten years. However, I still get alerts. I'll respond to comments and deep-six spam comments as needed.

Hey there! Thanks for visiting my blog. It's my first blog, and I'm glad folks are still stopping by even though I'm no longer living in South Korea. Feel free to comment. If you want a personal answer, leave your email, and I won't publish the comment. Nasty comments and spam links will not be tolerated.

Lol, you laugh, but you don't know for sure! YOU DON'T KNOW!
ReplyDeleteI know it's ridiculous... and yet, growing up hearing of the perils of fan death have made me unable to go to sleep with the fan on. Sometimes I fall asleep accidentally and wake up in the middle of the night, relieved to still be alive.
Hey there Javabeans ;)
ReplyDeleteMass delusion is a strange thing, ain't it?
I'm going to give it to you straight 'cause I feel like I know even though we've never met.
It's like this. Fan death is a way to explain how Uncle Kim was found dead when we all know he, unfortunately, took his own life. But you can't say he killed himself...instead you say that the fan sucked the air out of the room rather than acknowledging that he was clinically depressed and suicidal for years.
Nothing wrong with depression. However, like black America, Korean society really hasn't come to terms with those issues. It's all about cheering up and some people don't. Instead their fans kill them. :(
Anyway, that's serious, but I do think that's part of why this is still such a strong mass lie.
