Visited Countries - So Many Countries, So Little Time

Okay, I'm shifting gears (I'm also procrastinating because I should be working on a final project for one of my classes.) I'm sick of the serious topics, so here is something a bit more fun.

I discovered the World66 website through another blogger, but forgot who. (Whoever you are, sorry, but when I remember I'll update this post.) On that site you can create a map that shows the countries you've visited.

It's really cute. All you do is go to the website and tick the countries you've visited. Now I realize that I still have tons of places to travel to. But, comparatively speaking, I'm going to say "not bad" regarding where I've gone so far.***

The scary thing is I've only been to 14, or 6%, out of 193 countries that the US Department of State recognizes. Plus, there are continents that I've yet to touch.

I still have a huge number of frequent flier miles to accumulate. I'm tempted to go on a mad backpacking spree. However, honestly, I hate to sound like a Princess, but roughing it really isn't my thing.

  1. Thanks for the World66 site, very interesting. I came up with 37 countries @ 16 percent, but didn’t count transit (airports, etc.). . . or the DPRK for the Panmunjom trip!

  2. Thanks for your comment!

I didn't count transport, but I did count my Panmunjom tour ;-) It's either that or wait for the tour of North Korea that's not likely to happen.

  3. If you cribbed the World 66 off my blog, I'm glad you liked it...

  4. Hey there. Thanks for your comment.

Nope, it wasn't your blog as I clicked over to check. It was someone else's. I remember it eventually.

However, if you could tell a clueless gal how to reduce the size of the map, I'll be forever grateful ;-)

  5. Formatting nightmare update!!!

Score! There is nothing like reading the code from another website to learn another HTML trick.

My formatting problem is fixed, and, damn, I'm a first class geek. I'm reading code and understanding it.

  6. Glad I could help even if I didn't do anything...

  7. You have the website wherefrom I read the code that helped me get out of my formatting nightmare.

    So thanks ;-)

Now I have to get back to writing. There are so many words to write and so little time :-(

  8. Cool thing! You've been to Russia?! Wowowow! I've always wanted to visit that country.

It's pretty weird... you travel a whole lot, yet you've only seen a small percentage of the earth's wonderfulness!

    What's your goal?

Seriously, what's a realistic goal for an everage person? Maybe 30%? I've reached 5% (13 countries) in 23 years so... I dunno :)

  9. Thanks for your comment! Yeah, Russia is great. I want to see St. Petersburg for sure, but I'd probably go there from Europe as it's much closer.

I don't know what my goal is. Now that you mention it, I should probably consider that.

There are so many places I've yet to see. I need to explore more of SE Asia. I've yet to make it to India. I've yet to make it down to Australia or New Zealand. I'd like to go to South America and Africa. I've always wanted to go to countries in the Middle East too but with all that's going on, as an American, that's not going to be travel destination on the top of my list.

So with my list of places I want to see, I'm saying that percentage has to go way up.

I've managed to see a bit, so I'll just have to keep working on it.

  10. You've done quite a bit of traveling, yet there's a lot of gray :)

These maps look even more depressing if you only color places you've REALLY been to (would like to see a way to make one of those automatically).

  11. Thanks for your comment!

You're right. I guess it only goes to show that the world is a big, big place ;-)

    Happy New Year!
