It was a blog about my life and adventures as an expat in Seoul, South Korea. I've been back in the USA for over ten years. However, I still get alerts. I'll respond to comments and deep-six spam comments as needed.
If the video doesn't come up either just watch the YouTube one below or run a search for "Harry Potter" and it will come up in the cue.
Also, it's the Hulu.com version. If you're not in the States, it won't work. That completely sucks. I hated that before I moved back to the States, but that's how it is :(
What I do care about is that absolutely gorgeous Daniel Henney is in this movie. I was so happy when I found out he was in the cast. Now I just love having a "wow, he's so cute" crush on him, but I hope the director has pulled out what little acting talent he has. He's pretty to look at, but, acting talent challenged.
Since I really like the X-men movies, I want this to be a fun ride, so let us pray for good acting from even the ridiculously good-looking members of the cast. It's probably nothing to fret over as, even from the preview, it looks like his character just might get taken out pretty early in the game.
I actually didn't like the Korean version that much. The only reason I watched it more than was because I thought Cha Tae Hyun, 차태현, was kind of cute. Therefore, I was sure when I heard about the American version it would be a hard sell.
I won't ruin it for those who actually want to see it, but as I said before:
I saw the movie and thought it was okay, but the Japanese and others in Asia loved it. That's probably because the cultures are similar in many ways. While I thought the female lead character was annoying, needed counseling and a stint at the Betty Ford Clinic, she was endearing to Korean and Asian audiences who aren't used to feisty female characters.
I happened to catch the movie on TV recently and that lead character was still bloody irritating to me.
Now we've got the American version and how they're going to explain why she's such a freak, I have no idea.
Here is the trailer I found on Facebook.
Crap on a stick? Totally.
Best Week Ever has a great blog hitting on all the reasons why this trailer blows and why the movie probably will too.
Dear Trailer-Makers,
I just want you to know that literally everything about the trailer for My Sassy Girl appeals to me. From the generic spiky-haired lovelorn guy to his overweight comic relief sidekick friend to Elisha Cuthbert’s adorable attempt at playing “cute crazy” to the ingenious title My Sassy Girl, I just want to see this movie a million times right now. Remember guys - but sometimes, love is worth it.
Oh, the sarcasm just makes me smile. Translation: "Hated it".
Here is the Korean trailer with English subtitles. At least, I "get" why it was successful here. Women still very much lack power. But how this is going to play in the US, I'm not sure.
Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof is one of the most entertaining films I've seen in awhile. In Korea it's not paired with Grindhouse but is being released on its own, so they've added more scenes. That means the version in Korea does start off a bit slow, but it picks up and is just crazy entertaining once it picks up.
I saw it tonight at a free screening here in Seoul (thanks Mike aka The Metropolitician).
I'll leave the reviews to the pros, but I'll just say "wow" what a great ending. A bit of warning. You've got to be a movie fan, I think, to like the dialogue. I've read a few reviews which are critical of it. I think, however, if you can follow Tarantino's brand of wit, you'll like it most of the film. If you can't, you'll probably only get a rise out of the action scenes. Yes, it's got violence. Yes, there is blood. It's a Tarantino movie! I'm squeamish with movie blood and gore, but I dug this. Then again, I loved the Kill Bill movies too. If I say anything further, I'll have to flag this for spoilers.
Oh, the Death House soundtrack is pretty tight too.
Now I'm going to dust off my Reservoir Dogs DVD and have a late night movie festival. ------------------------------------ Speaking of spoilers - if you don't want any, don't bother clicking on these links. However, I don't think it really matters.
When SATC was on I was having a parallel universe while living in San Francisco...enough said.
This makes me happy. I mean really happy.
Television show Sex and the City is finally coming to the big screen as Sarah Jessica Parker and her co-stars Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davies and Kim Cattrall have finally agreed terms after months of talks.
The quartet are dusting off their Manolo Blahniks for a much-awaited film version of the hit television show which aired it's last episode.
Filming will begin in New York in September, according to Variety magazine. The Hollywood showbiz bible contends that a deal has been signed between HBO and New Line Studios to begin shooting a film version.
Celebrity websites have long speculated that attempts to make the movie failed after Cattrall reportedly asked for the same money as Parker, who was paid more in the show because of her role as executive producer.
Parker tried to downplay talk of friction between the actresses at the launch of her budget clothing line Bitten earlier this year.
She said: "It is a very complicated puzzle to put back but not for the reason that people speculate about, because as far as I know, all of the actresses want to be together for this movie."
Variety also reported that as part of the film deal, Cattrall has been assured future roles in forthcoming HBO programming.
The plot is a highly guarded secret and it's not yet known if popular co-stars such as Chris "Mr Big" Noth will be appearing.
It just seems they're really going out of their way to paint Kim Cattrall as the bad one in these negotiations.
Hey, I'm not there and have no inside link, so she just might be. But Parker's quote indicates there really might be more than just Cattrall jockeying for more money and leverage here.
Except for those close, who knows? I'm just glad they've locked down the terms.
For friends who got my Christmas greeting and didn't get the bell reference, here is the movie.
Often referred to as one of the best films ever made, this holiday classic is out of copyright and is available for everyone to enjoy again and again.
Plot: George Bailey spends his entire life giving up his big dreams for the good of his town, Bedford Falls, as we see in flashback. But in the present, on Christmas Eve, he is broken and suicidal over the misplacing of a loan and the machinations of the evil millionaire, Mr. Potter. His guardian angel, Clarence, falls to Earth, literally, and shows him how his town, family, and friends would turn out if he had never been born. ~Tommy Peter(IMDB)
I'm an L.A. native who lived in the Land of the Morning Calm, South Korea, for a bit too long. I had a great time while I was there. I have a B.A. and law degree, but I earned a master's in international studies at Ewha Womans University. It was then I discovered that I love writing, thanks to this blog, and the things that grew out of writing it. For those who need to know where Korea is located. Korea is a peninsula that is split into two countries (North Korea and South Korea). It's located in NE Asia between Japan and Taiwan. It's below the eastern coast of China and Russia.
I moved back from NYC in 2011. It was exciting but definitely challenging. I "made" it in NYC and well, as the song says.
I'm back in the SF Bay area now. I have led the charge organizing SFTech4Good Meetup since 2011 and working in the tech industry specializing in community management and customer advocacy.
