Steve Gilliard, RIP

I've got to a take a study break or I will bash my head into a wall or get a chocolate ice cream cone. As I'm an insulin dependent diabetic BOTH are bad for me.

Anyway, during breaks I'll sometimes surf my blog favorites. I went to Rachel's Tavern to read that, unfortunately, Steven Gilliard Jr. had died at the young age of 42.

Some info on Gilliard and why his death stands out:

  1. He was blogging way back in the day which humbles me as I just started this less than a year ago. After working as a journalist, he started writing for the Daily Kos when it had 4,000 visitors a day and it now has 500,000. He eventually moved on to start his own news blog.
  2. He's one of a few >bloggers who made a living as a blogger. The News Blog, linked below, was active enough for him to have a modest income. Not bad, not bad at all.

Here is his obituary on at the New York Times: Steven Gilliard Jr., 42, Dies; Founder of Liberal Political Blog

Here is his blog if you've never been to it: The News Blog and the older one pre-Blogger beta: The News Blog (blogging ended on this one in February 2007.)

  1. Man, that sucks. I'm a fan of the Daily Kos.

  2. Well actually, he'd moved on from the Daily Kos to doing The News Blog.

Now that I look back my post isn't completely clear on that...let me go back and revise it.

Drats! Foiled again! It would have worked too if it wasn't for you meddling kids!

Hey there! Thanks for visiting my blog. It's my first blog, and I'm glad folks are still stopping by even though I'm no longer living in South Korea. Feel free to comment. If you want a personal answer, leave your email, and I won't publish the comment. Nasty comments and spam links will not be tolerated.
