Korea Leaps in the 2007-2008 Global Competitiveness Index

Here is some good news on South Korea in the economic rankings.

Korea Leaps to 11th Place in Competitiveness Index

Korea jumped 12 rungs to number 11 in the latest annual Global Competitiveness Index released by the World Economic Forum on Wednesday. The WEF said that Korea showed the greatest improvement of the 131 nations on the list. This year's ranking is Korea's best ever since the WEF released the first index in 1996. Previously it saw its ranking fall two years in a row, in 2005 and 2006.

The WEF said that Korea showed strong performance in higher education and training and did fairly well in technological readiness, innovation, macroeconomic stability, and business sophistication. However, it scored low in health, financial market sophistication, and safety/security.
